Renault Duster Interior:- It is only the interiors of the Duster that failed to appeal us. The plastic quality isn’t up to the mark, even though the fit and finish is decent. The space in the SUV is just phenomenal, with large and supportive seats.

The interiors of the car are practical and incorporate host of features as per liking and requirements of today’s consumers, especially in India. Though it’s European counterpart Dacia Duster’s interiors has striking similarity to Renault Logan or Sandero, but in Renault's compact SUV here, the cabin is more tweaked for a difference in sub continental conditions. Interiors are comfortable and inspiring enough for this price range. Coming to the front portion, the seats are nice with broader base and ergonomic back support. The higher position allows better road viewing for the driver and co-passenger. Driver’s seat has lumbar support and comes with height adjustable feature. The driver seat positioning is spot on and the adjustable arrangement further makes seating perfect for drivers with different heights. Rear seats are sufficiently spacious thanks to the lengthier wheelbase which paves way for more space inside the cabin. If someone wants to increase the luggage space at the rear, the second row seat can be folded up. Its cabin can easily carry five average size passengers. The compartment has enough, head room, legroom and shoulder room for the occupants that can feel a sigh of relief on the journey. The dashboard at the front is dressed with glossy black piano theme with decently sized glove box. The board certainly looks plush and soft to touch with plenty of other spaces for knick knacks. The center console of this compact SUV is equipped with state-of-the-art 2-DIN stereo system that has MP3/ CD/ Radio playback functionality. Furthermore, this modern stereo system is backed by USB, Bluetooth, AUX-In support and for ensuring surround sound, 4-speakers are ready to enhance music experience. The instrument panel has got clear vision of the speedometer and other technical information. The clothing inside the car is of premium beige 3D embossed making you feel comfy during long journeys while optional leather pack is also offered for those who want more premiumness in their car. The fit and finish work is top notch and leaves no space for any complaints.
The newly launched variant Renault Duster 85PS diesel RxE Adventure boasts special interior aspects including lime green fabric upholstery with DUSTER lettering, sporty floor mats with Duster lettering and a dual tone dashboard.   The steering wheel and gear knob are wrapped up in leather and are good to hold. The slick gear knob moves as and when you require. Mounted audio and phone controls on steering wheel make driving more convenient and hassle-free and ensure that driver always has his eyes on the road. Air-conditioner is decent while the climate control could have been better. Other convenient features include 12V charging point at both front and rear for the devices on the move, rear AC with independent blower control and rear armrest cup holder for more comfort. There are power windows switches provided for both front and rear passengers with illumination while reverse parking sensors are there to help in for trouble-free parking. All in all, this compact SUV guarantees genuine interior comfort with sophisticated features arranged in a perfect manner.

Engine and Performance:- While driving Duster we felt that despite K9K being a frugal engine, it possesses fair drivability to roam around the town. Acceleration, as expected, is quite brisk and even when lugged in a higher cog, it pulls out swiftly. The torque figure of 85 bhp duster feels better in city driving conditions as compared to 110 bhp variant. All these factors contribute to a larger extent in luring the customers and make it a good buy.

Power

Renault has presented the compact SUV in both petrol and diesel trims. It is being offered with three different engine options. In petrol, Renault has incorporated a 1.6-litre engine with DOHC technology. Currently, the French manufacturer is only offering two petrol variants. Though, its not as formidable as the diesel ones, still it has held the fortress quite nicely. To be more specific, its 1598cc, 4-cylinder, 16-valve, In-line petrol engine churns out a maximum power output of 102.6 bhp at 5850 RPM and a peak torque of 145 Nm at 3750 RPM. It is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission gear box to maximize performance and acceleration. The acceleration, too, is quite impressive as it reaches the 0-100 kmph mark within 11.5 seconds and attains a top speed of 160 kmph. It is quite suitable for city driving but on highways its NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) is a matter of concern.

Renault has launched a total of 8 variants in diesel trim and they are divided equally into two categories. One category comprises of the variants that have 85PS power engine, while the other category consists of the remaining variants which have a mighty 110PS engine. Although, the engine in both these categories is similar but the thing which fascinates is the way it has been moulded in two categories. The company has elegantly tweaked the 1.5-litre dCi engine in order to obtain two different power outputs, i.e. one of 85PS and other of 110PS. This 1.5-litre dCi engine also perform its duties in Renault's existing cars like Scala and Pulse. Specifically, its 1.5-litre, 1461cc, 4-cylinder, 16-valve, common rail direct injection K9K diesel engine that is phenomenal and comes up with two different power outputs: 83.8BHP at 3750 RPM and 108.5BHP at 3900 RPM. The reason behind this difference is that the engine delivering 108.5bhp is the Step 4 version of K9K engine, which also uses a variable geometry turbo instead of regular fixed geometry turbo.

Acceleration & Pick up:-
This engine delivers supreme performance, power and acceleration. It generates higher degree of torques like 248 Nm at 2250 RPM for 110 PS power output whereas 200 Nm at 1900 RPM for 85 PS power output. The 85 PS variants are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gear box in order to execute the power and performance quotient correctly. On the other hand, the 110 PS variants are coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission gear box so that higher performance and acceleration can be achieved. The figures for 0-100 kmph for both 85 PS and 110 PS are 13.9 seconds and 12.5 seconds , respectively. The top speed too for these variants are as high as 156 kmph and 168 kmph.
